On Sunday 19th March 1916, as children were on their way home from Sunday School on St. Luke's Avenue, a bomb was dropped by a German warplane. This was near where St. Luke's store now is.
It killed a number of people including five children. Two children who survived went on to die of their injuries, one a year later and the other ten years later.
At St. Luke's on Sunday 20th March, there will be a short service at 10:30am to commemorate this tragedy. During the service some children will lay a wreath at the front of the church. All are welcome to join us.
The service will be followed by refreshments and for those who would like to join us a 'Messy Church' service with activities for youngsters and adults focussed on the Palm Sunday theme.
