A Sad Denial (Mark 14:27-31,66-72)

29/3/2015

Peter is supremely confident that he will stick by Jesus no matter what. But, Jesus knows better and predicts that he will deny him before the night is out.

Jesus is proved right. Yet, this is not the end there is still hope for Peter, if only he would listen more carefully to Jesus's words...

A Dodgy Trial (Mark 14:43-65)

In the middle of the night, Jesus is approached by one of his closest followers, who betrays him with a kiss and hands him over to an arrest party armed to the hilt. There is a scuffle, but Jesus accepts his fate and his followers flee, including one young man who loses his cloak and flees naked. This is all followed by a dodgy night-time trial.

Yet, despite all the cloak and daggers, we see in this story the naked truth of what is really going on in people's hearts.

Saved by a Mother (Exodus 2:1-10)

This Mothering Sunday, we are looking at the story of Moses as a baby. It is one of the more memorable stories in the Bible.

There are three main characters that each play a critical role in ensuring that Moses survives Pharaoh's murderous decree and flourishes. All three are women: Moses's mum, his big sister and Pharaoh's daughter. Each is used by God in subtle, but crucial ways.

An Anguished Prayer (Mark 14:32-42)

Jesus is about to be arrested, put on a dodgy trial and crucified. Not surprisingly, as he faces this he is deeply distressed. What does he do? He prays and tells his disciples to pray.

They fall asleep, but as we listen into Jesus's anguished prayer we can learn from the master how to better pray ourselves.

A Special Meal (Mark 14:12-26)

This is Mark's account of Jesus' last meal with his disciples. Not that the disciples realised that! But, Jesus knows what is coming and uses this opportunity to prepare them for it and explain why he will die.
