Can God be forgiving and still show that he is angry at our sin and all the harm and damage it causes? What is God really like?
In this passage, the relationship between God and Israel is on the rocks. Israel has momentarily replaced the awesome God with a gold model of a calf. Now although God hasn't destroyed them he is refusing to go with them. Can the relationship repaired? If so how and on what basis?
