Restoring the Kingdom (Acts 1:1-11)

Just before Jesus ascends into heaven, the disciples ask him, 'Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?'

The question is no doubt prompted by Jesus's teaching about the Kingdom of God. But when does the Kingdom come? Is it with Jesus's ascension, when he comes again or in between? And what has it to do with Israel?

Rejection and Reconciliation (Romans 11:1-24)

Paul continues to consider the implications of the rejection of the message of Good News about Jesus Christ by so many of the Jews of his day.

In this passage he makes clear that God has not rejected the Jews in their entirety, there is a 'remnant' who have believed Jesus and there is also hope that as Jews see many Gentiles coming to faith, they will eventually come to believe themselves.

Our Call (Romans 9:30-10:21)

Why doesn't everyone believe the good news? It is a question that Christians struggle with today and it is one that Paul was struggling with in the first century. 

For Paul, the issue was particularly acute when it came to the Jews. After all they were God's chosen people.

In chapter 9, he has looked at the question from the perspective of God's sovereignty. Now he looks at it from the perspective of human attitudes and choices.
