Jesus sees the people as the 'lost sheep', or 'sheep without a shepherd' who are 'harassed and helpless.' So he recruits twelve men to be sent out to help spread the good news of God's Kingdom, to bring people true peace.

But how are these twelve to go? What are they to do? Who are they to go to? That is what Jesus tells them in this passage.

Jesus is going around teaching the good news of the kingdom and healing many people. As he does so he has compassion on the crowds and sees their great need for spiritual direction. So, in order to expand the work he calls for more workers!

Do we see our need for the good news? Do we see the need of the world around?

Bitter Naomi (Ruth 1-2)

The book of Ruth is not part of the book of Judges, but it does tell of events during the time of the Judges. However, rather than focussing on some of the big events of the time, the battles and wars it focusses down on the lives of a few individuals.

It is a story of tragedy, but also hope. A story of loyalty, family ties and love. Many have described it as one of the most beautiful short stories ever told. But what is its message for us?

Samson: Hero in the End (Judges 16:21-31)

Samson is possibly the most famous of the Judges. He is the strong man of Israel, causing great trouble for their oppressors the Philistines.

Yet, he has his weaknesses - especially women. In the end it is one woman, Delilah, who is bribed to betray him. So Samson, the Philistines most wanted man is captured and put on display in their temple to Dagon. Yet, Samson still has faith, and the Philistine victory is turned into disaster as Samson's God proves far greater than theirs.
