Compassion (Matthew 15:29-39)

What emotions did Jesus show? No doubt many, but the one that is mentioned the most is that of Compassion.

This week in the morning we have Ian Childs speaking in the morning who works for the Christian charity, Compassion, which we are supporting as this year's Harvest appeal. His talk will be looking at Jesus's compassion.

How do I respond to God's mercy? (Romans 12:1-8)

God has does everything necessary for our salvation through the work of Christ. We are saved by his grace. As it says in Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

How, though should we respond to God's gift? Paul introduces the answer to that question in these wonderful verses.

At times people found Jesus's teaching hard. People reacted in different ways. This week's talk looks at a time when many who had been following Jesus deserted him. However, others realised that although it can be hard following Jesus at times - it was certainly worth it!

This series is called encounters with Jesus. We are looking at some occasions in John's gospel where people meet with Jesus. Usually the outcome is very positive, but the encounter this week is less so.

Amazingly a man is healed by Jesus of an illness that he has suffered with for 38 years. Surely something to rejoice and give thanks for? The response from others around and the man himself, however, is quite different.
