Kingdoms in Perspective (Daniel 2:31-49)

King Nebuchadnezzar ruled over the most powerful empire of his time - the Babylonian empire - but he couldn't sleep! Why? Because he had had a disturbing dream, which now Daniel a young Jewish civil servant was about to explain to him.

The dream and its interpretation were from God and helped Nebuchadnezzar see things with the right perspective. Will we learn the same lessons that he needed to learn?

Ever had to deal with an unreasonable boss? Daniel who has recently been taken from his home in Jerusalem and forced to train as a wise man in Babylon is now under threat of his life as the king has decided to kill all the wise men. Why? Because the wise men can't tell him his dream.

Daniel, however, who has grown up knowing the God of Israel has a solution. He knows who can reveal the greatest mysteries...

Still Confident at 140! (Luke 1:1-4)

On this our festal day, O Lord,
With praise to Thee ascending,
We enter in Thy House of prayer,
In adoration bending.
Here have we known the means of grace,
And heard thy word life giving;
For blessings in this place oft shared,
We offer our thanksgiving.

This was the first verse of a hymn written for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of St. Luke's church in 1936. (The parish of St. Luke's was formed in 1875 and the building consecrated in 1876).

One line talks about 'the word life giving.' Clearly, the people of St. Luke's had confidence in God's word! Can we still have confidence in words written nearly 2,000 years ago! Luke 1:1-4 helps us to see why we can!

How to live for God in an alien world.

Daniel and his friends grew up in Jerusalem with the temple and teaching of God's Word. Then suddenly, while they were still young men tragedy struck. The Babylonians took Jerusalem and 'recruited' Daniel and his friends to be trained as some of the top Civil Servants in the empire. Daniel was forced to travel hundreds of miles to an alien world, where they tried to turn him into a pure Babylonian. Would Daniel give up on the God he grew up with? Had that God given up on him?

Harvest (Mark 4:1-20)

How do we achieve a Spiritual Harvest? What is needed for people to discover the joy of following Jesus so that they live a life that glorifies him?

In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus, shows us that although the word of good news is powerful it so often fails to produce a harvest, because people fail to listen in the right way.
