What is God teaching us during these strange times? One way to answer that is to look at what God taught the Israelites when they found their lives radically changed having left Egypt and now in the wilderness.

The Israelites are faced with an attack from the Amalekites. Moses's response is to commission Joshua to fight as he, Aaron and Hur go up to pray. Prayer is the secret weapon to winning the battle. But Moses also needs the help of others.

Can God be forgiving and still show that he is angry at our sin and all the harm and damage it causes? What is God really like?

In this passage, the relationship between God and Israel is on the rocks. Israel has momentarily replaced the awesome God with a gold model of a calf. Now although God hasn't destroyed them he is refusing to go with them. Can the relationship repaired? If so how and on what basis?

What's wrong with creating your own god? (Exodus 32)

In this key passage the new special relationship between Israel and God is put into jeopardy when, at the people's behest, Aaron creates a golden calf that they worship as the 'god who brought them out of Egypt.' God and Moses are furious. But why? Does it really matter how you worship God or what god you worship? Surely there are many ways to God?

Israel have just agreed to a special relationship with God. He is committed to dwelling with them. But how? What will this dwelling look like? How can a holy and all powerful God live with a sinful and fragile people?

The answer for Israel as they prepare to set out on their journey to the Promised Land was a Tabernacle. As we consider how to journey with God today we too can learn from the model about how to live with a holy and powerful God.

Saved by a Mother (Exodus 2:1-10)

This Mothering Sunday, we are looking at the story of Moses as a baby. It is one of the more memorable stories in the Bible.

There are three main characters that each play a critical role in ensuring that Moses survives Pharaoh's murderous decree and flourishes. All three are women: Moses's mum, his big sister and Pharaoh's daughter. Each is used by God in subtle, but crucial ways.
