In the last of our series in this pre- and post- election period. We ask, 'Which government really matters?'

In this passage in John's gospel Jesus is the subject of a political row between Pilate, the Roman Prefect and the Jewish leaders. But who is really in charge? Who has the real power? Which government really matters?

Last Thursday we elected a new government. Some will be pleased with the outcome others will be disappointed and even worried, but how should we as Christians relate to our governments?

That is the subject of this week's sermon with a particular focus on the question of taxes.

With an election imminent what criteria should we use to judge the different parties and candidates as we come to vote?

Psalm 72 is a prayer for the king written around 3,000 years ago. Yet, what it prays for the ruler then are surely the sort of things we should, as Christians, want from our government today.

With the election approaching how should Christian's vote? The Bible cannot tell us which party to vote for, but it can give us some pointers as to what issues we should be concerned about when we weigh up our choices.

This week we look at a passage from Deuteronomy, which in a way is a kind of manifesto. It is a book that contains Moses's God-given vision for the future of Israel in the Promised Land.
