'Money, money, money... all the things I could do if I had a little money..."

For many people life is about making enough money to get rich or at least to be comfortable. But is life about having stuff?

In this passage Jesus tells us a story that warns against greed.

Are you a quitter? Most of us give up on one thing or another in life. Sometimes that is a natural part of growing up, aging or moving forward in a career. However, some things we need to stick with and not give up.

Jesus tells this story to show why it is necessary that we keep on praying and don't 'give up'.

The story of the Rich Man and Lazarus provides one of Jesus's starkest warnings to people. It warns us against ignoring Jesus in our lives, ignoring God's word and ignoring the poor.

Will you listen to Jesus's warning? Or strive to be like the rich man?

What does God think about those who have led wicked lives in the past. Lives that have completely ignored him as the God who created them?

In this story that Jesus tells, he shows us God's attitude and how he will respond when they turn back to him. However, he also challenges us who think of ourselves as already being God's to share in his attitude.

Lost and found: God's Celebration (Luke 15:1-10)

How does God view people who are not Christians? In these two stories, Jesus gives us God's perspective on non-Christians as those who are lost, but whom he longs to be found.

This has important things to say to those who are not yet Christians, but also to us who are Christians. We need to better understand God's motivation, mission and passion.

The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35)

Surely since we all know scientifically that the dead don't come alive again we can't believe the Easter story of a resurrected Christ! Besides which doesn't the suffering in the world and our lives show that God either doesn't exist or doesn't care?

These questions and thoughts weren't far off the feelings of two men who were heading off from Jerusalem on that first Easter Sunday. Yet, they were to have their thoughts and assumptions deeply challenged by an incredible encounter.

What does Easter mean to you? On Easter Sunday we remember the unique events of that first Easter Sunday: the stone mysteriously rolled away, Jesus's body missing, messages from angels, then people actually meeting the risen Jesus!

But, what do all the events mean? What is the significance of that first Easter weekend?

This Sunday our 10:30am service starts with a mark of remembrance for the events of 19th March 1916, when a number of Sunday School children were killed on their way to Sunday School.

After this there will be some Messy Church activities related to Palm Sunday, then a short All Age celebration looking at Palm Sunday.

A Mother's Song (Luke 1:46-55)

Mary was a teenage girl from a humble background who had just been given an amazing job by God: to be the mother of God's Son, our Saviour.

Her response was to sing this song, which rejoices and glorifies in God not just because of what He has done for her, but because of what He is doing for all the humble who put their trust in Him.

Still Confident at 140! (Luke 1:1-4)

On this our festal day, O Lord,
With praise to Thee ascending,
We enter in Thy House of prayer,
In adoration bending.
Here have we known the means of grace,
And heard thy word life giving;
For blessings in this place oft shared,
We offer our thanksgiving.

This was the first verse of a hymn written for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of St. Luke's church in 1936. (The parish of St. Luke's was formed in 1875 and the building consecrated in 1876).

One line talks about 'the word life giving.' Clearly, the people of St. Luke's had confidence in God's word! Can we still have confidence in words written nearly 2,000 years ago! Luke 1:1-4 helps us to see why we can!
