On this our festal day, O Lord, With praise to Thee ascending, We enter in Thy House of prayer, In adoration bending. Here have we known the means of grace, And heard thy word life giving; For blessings in this place oft shared, We offer our thanksgiving. This was the first verse of a hymn written for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of St. Luke's church in 1936. (The parish of St. Luke's was formed in 1875 and the building consecrated in 1876). One line talks about 'the word life giving.' Clearly, the people of St. Luke's had confidence in God's word! Can we still have confidence in words written nearly 2,000 years ago! Luke 1:1-4 helps us to see why we can! |
