World Missions

St. Luke's has a long history of supporting those who have gone around the world to show God's love and let people know the wonderful good news about Jesus. We tend to highlight a different mission each term, collecting money for them, profiling them in our notice sheet and praying for them. In September and October we usually choose a one off project to support for our Harvest Appeal. Below are a list of the missions we support, local and worldwide, with the months when they are highlighted. Click on the heading to link to the appropriate website (where available).

CMS - Dick and Caroline Seed

C.M.S. stands for the Church Mission Society, which supports Christians, mainly from the Church of England, who have gone out all over the world to show God's love and share his word. We have a particular link with Dick and Caroline Seed who are presently based in Cape Town, South Africa and are involved in training Bible Teachers in key theological institutions across Africa.

CPAS - Church pastoral Aid Society

The Church Pastoral Aid Society is an organisation within the Church of England that works to enable churches to hear and discover the good news of Jesus. They have a particular focus on encouraging churches to make disciple and develop leaders. In addition they run ventures for young people during the school holidays.
CPAS are also patrons of St. Luke's, which means they play a role in the appointment of vicars at St. Luke's.

Tearfund

Tearfund is an evangelical Christian mission organisation dedicated to tackling poverty around the world through the local church. At present St. Luke's has a particular link through their 'Connected Church' programme with Self-Help groups run by the Kale Heywet church in Ethiopia. These groups help to empower local people to set up their own businesses in order to break free from poverty.
